Waituhi Mana Manaia
Manaia are kaitiaki guardian forms that feature in whakairo, moko, kowhaiwhai. This body of work was created by Leisa Aumua for the Soul Sisters Exhibition in Oxford 2019. It was one way to draw attention to the stylised Manaia, which can be displayed very simply or in a very complex manner depending on the mediums and the artist.
The white Mangopare design is like a trellis of kowhaiwhai to find the Manaia beyond.
These Manaia are all framed with glass front panels. They can be purchased separately or as a set. Each artwork is 47 cm X 56 cm.
