Whakakai - Earrings

WHAKAKAI is the kupu used for ornaments, such as earrings or necklaces where the jewelry itself adorns and embellishes the body.
TĀNIKO is a traditional Māori weaving technique. The art of fibre weaving is through WHATU (twinning) this involves the WHENU (warp) hanging vertically and weaving the AHO (weft) across horizontally. Our long tassel TĀNIKO earrings are handmade here in Aotearoa New Zealand and are a contemporary expression of this traditional weaving technique.
